Who We Are

Three Pond Barrens Groomers (TPBG) was established to groom trails in the winter in the Three Pond Barrens / Pippy Park area. In the past few years, TPBG volunteers purchased equipment such as snowmobiles and grooming drags required for grooming operations. The equipment and associated operational costs were purchased from donations made by people who have enjoyed the groomed trails for a variety of activities.

What We Do

The maintenance of the trails requires year-round attention by TPBG. In the past four years hundreds of blowdowns and ‘leaners’ have been cut and removed from the trails. This effort has enabled access by all users and in many cases has removed a safety hazard along with the reduction of side trails to navigate around the blowdowns. Trail maintenance also includes the removal of stumps and and rock which reduces the amount of snow required by winter activities and makes for better trails outside of winter. TPBG has constructed boardwalks and filled in poorly drained depressions which improves trails for all users and reduces the opportunity for runoff of mineral and organic soils into waterways.

TPBG has worked with the Pippy Park Commission to remove derelict ‘camps’ and other garbage from the trails. The support of the Commission has enabled the volunteers to efficiently remove garbage to the benefit of the Park and all users.

The establishment of the Waterfalls Green Trail was achieved through the cooperation and contributions of: Pippy Park Commission, City of St. John’s, Pyramid Construction, Active NL Program funded by the Provincial Government and by the volunteers under the leadership of TPBG. This model has the potential to improve trails throughout the Park.
