Trails

The trails of Three Pond Barrens/Pippy Park are varied as they are numerous! In the past wood cutting, farming and youth camps, required vehicular access. Over the past 50 years these roads have deteriorated and grown in. For many years cross -country skiing was very popular in the TPB. Ski enthusiasts posted signs throughout the area with trails identified by different colours. The very popular “Ski Trail’ is also a reminder of former and existing ski activity. Years ago skiers used heavy equipment to smooth the trails to improve trail conditions for skiing.

Apart from the double track trails (former vehicular roads) most trails are narrow and twisty. The TrailForks AP identifies trails throughout the area, including, names, lengths and topography/elevation.

The Trailforks App identifies the principal access points which include: Allandale, Waterfalls Trail (Allandale) Pitchers Path, Penetanguishene, Firdale, McNiven and Parkers Pond road. The Allandale accesses are the most popular, however on a good weather weekend, parking is limited. The other sites are a matter of personal preference and provide alternatives to Allandale. McNiven has substantial parking and was an extremely popular during the pandemic when there were large amounts of snow. TPBG has tentative plans to improve access from McNiven to the trail system.
